Memorable song lyrics

I was driving back from fieldwork today (damn you peak hour traffic!) and heard a song that was a bit of a blast from my past: Zero by the Smashing Pumpkins. I have always been in love the following lyrics:

Emptiness is loneliness
And loneliness is cleanliness
And cleanliness is godliness
And god is empty, just like me

And it got me thinking. What other songs have lyrics that have really stuck in my mind? Sometimes, I've even written short stories from them. Here's a short list:

I consoled a cup of coffee, but it didn't want to talk (Jewel, You were meant for me)

I smashed the mirror just to look whats behind
Picked through the pieces just to see what I'd find
I found my heart and it broke like glass
(Powderfinger, I don't remember)

I want your love and
I want your revenge
You and me could write a bad romance
(Lady Gaga, Bad Romance)

She acts like summer and walks like rain (Train, Drops of Jupiter)

Light up a cigarette she said
And calm the fuck down
(Live, Voodoo Lady)

What are some of your favourite lyrics?

One side of his face, a kiss
The other genocide (Megadeth, Architecture of Aggression)

I know I must remain inside this silent
well of sorrow (Deep Purple, Perfect Strangers)

I kiss the tears off from your chest
I felt the poison fright that's in your breath
I knew your precious life and I know your death
I squeeze the love out of your soul
All the perfect love that's in your soul
You're just another spirit on parole (Alice Cooper, Devil's Food)

Just a few of my favorites. ;)

Old friends, winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sun
The sounds of the city sifting through trees
Settles like dust on the shoulders of the old friends

Can you imagine us years from today, sharing a parkbench quietly
How terribly strange to be seventy
- "Old Friends" - Simon & Garfunkel

I want you as the dream,
Not the reality.
That clumsy goodbye-kiss could fool me,
But I'm looking back over my shoulder
At you, happy without me.
- "Never Be Mine" - Kate Bush

And through the window
There’s a whole world
And I’m watching all the people
All the faces and the places I have yet to go
- "Good Day" - Luce

With you in my garden
its more peaceful inside
I don’t need anything else
to make me feel alive

You electrify me
And I want to be in your arms
for always
for always

Our love is swollen
Made of the quietest shade of loud
Holds me like an anchor
Floats just like a cloud
- "Swollen" - Bent

I love songs that have strong story elements!

Me, too. Perhaps that's why I'm such a huge Kate Bush fan.
